I Hate Taylor Phinney

Well, not really. But still, seventeen-year-old kids should not be allowed to win World Cup events, especially something like four months after riding a track bike for the first time. Lousy lucky genetic freak.

Other than Mini-Phinney’s win, there were some awesome moments at the first day of the World Cup. Less than awesome was the fact that they pushed the start time up to 9:00 from 11:30 this morning. Since my plane didn’t even get in until 10:00, I missed a couple hours of racing. Mostly qualifiers, but still, I like watching all the events, especially the women’s sprint stuff, and I missed the flying 200s. Oh well, plenty more to see.

One of the first things I saw was an amazing bike throw by Lisandra Rodriguez of Cuba in a sprint match. Her throw was actually so violent that she slid backwards off her saddle. That’s not a particular problem on a road bike, as you can coast and slide back over the top of the saddle. Lisandra, though, had to keep up her 150+ RPM cadence while trying to correct the situation. It was pretty funny to watch.

There was tons of other cool stuff to see, and I got plenty of photos (almost 300 from today alone) but it’s too late to try to be coherent, and I have to sort through my shots before posting any online. I mainly just wanted to remind people that I’m here watching awesome racing and you’re not. Because I’m a dick. I’ll try to get another post up in the morning when I’m more rested.
